Marrickville Council has given notice that they intend to remove a Mugga Ironbark (Eucalyptus nicholii) outside 9 Pile Street Dulwich Hill.

Council gives the following reasons for removal –

  • “The tree has rapidly declined and has been assessed to be a dead tree.  Current low risk to the public will escalate if removal is not undertaken in the short term.”

Council say they intend to plant 2 Red Flowering Gums (Corymbia ficifolia) to be planted within the 2012-2013 annual tree planting program – as per resident’s request. How nice to see that.

The tree is very dead & has multiple areas of disease on its trunk & higher up in one branch.  A local resident feared that the tree had been poisoned because of its rapid decline.

The deadline for any submissions is Friday 21st September 2012.

It’s a shame as this was one of the larger street trees & definitely a feature. Apparently it was always full of small birds.
