Street tree outside 100 Denison Road Lewisham.

Marrickville Council has given notice that they intend to remove a Narrow Leafed Black Peppermint (Eucalyptus nicholii) outside 100 Denison Street Lewisham.

Council gives the following reasons –

  • “The tree exhibits poor form & structural condition due to extensive basal flare wounding & basal decay (tension root side),
  • moderate lean with multiple fungal fruiting bodies along the main stem.
  • The tree presents an unacceptable risk to the public & property.”

Council says they intend to replace this tree with a Flame tree (Brachychiton acerifolius) during the 2012-2013 replacement tree planting program.  I think it is great that a colourful native tree will be planted here & that there are no powerlines to obstruct its growth.

There was no Notice of Removal sign on the tree.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 14th December 2012.   I will not be putting in a submission.

Good sized bracket fungus next to where a branch was removed.

Another fruiting body further up the trunk.
