The historic sandstone wall at Ruby Street Marrickville.

A section of the historic sandstone wall at Ruby Street Marrickville.

Yesterday, Marrickville Council posted the following on their Facebook Page –

“On Sunday, 17 residents and Council’s Verge Crew removed weeds to help regenerate the native ferns colonising the rock wall in Ruby Street Marrickville. Ten large green waste bins were full of weeds at the end of the day, and the area was tidied up just in time for their street Christmas party. Well done Ruby Street!”

Unemployed workers built the sandstone wall along Ruby Street in the 1930s.  The wall is an important link to our local history so it is great to see it being taken care of.  You can look at the photos here – http://on.fb.me/UNKao3
