I was sent the link to this wonderful short video called – ‘Adelaide’s Beautiful Tree Lined Boulevards.’  This is a really nice video & shows how trees enhance a city.

In Adelaide they like their street trees to last 100-years or more.

Until the water restrictions that came as a result of the last drought Adelaide City Council watered their mature street trees.  Newly planted street trees are given 50-litres per week for 3-years to get them well established.   In comparison Marrickville Council waters newly planted street trees twice a week for 12-weeks & then they are on their own.

The video also shows a few interesting trees such as Crows ash (Flindersia ausralis), which could be a perfect feature tree in some of our parks & the Wilga (Geijera parviflora), a short native that copes with clay soils & is suitable for planting under powerlines, as well as the streetscape around Adelaide.  You can watch here – http://bit.ly/RFbhoC
