7-8 metre street tree outside 37 Renwick Street Marrickville that will need to be removed after sustaining significant damage to the trunk.

Marrickville Council has given notification to remove a Tuckeroo (Cupaniopsis anacardiodies) outside 37 Renwick Street Marrickville.

Council gives the following reason for removal –

  • “Major mechanical damage which has exposed a large area of heart wood leaving the tree structural un-safe.” [sic]

They say they will replace this tree, during the 2013-2014 planting season (species to be determined by Street Tree Master Plan).”

It looks like the tree was either hit by a vehicle or broken by a person swinging from a branch.  This is such a shame as it is one of the taller trees.  It was really healthy & there are no powerlines impeding its growth.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 16th August 2013council@marrickville.nsw.gov.au

The damage is deep into the heartwood, though it doesn’t show in the photo.
