Jacaranda tree – notice the powerlines cutting straight through the canopy.

Marrickville Council has given notice that they intend to remove a Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia) outside 57 Bruce Street Stanmore.

They give the following reasons –

  • “Active split at junction of codominant stem.
  • Trunk decay.
  • The tree poses an unacceptable risk to property and to the public.
  • Identified in 2012 Street Tree audit for removal.”

Council says they will replace this tree during the 2013-2014 planting season with the species determined by the Street Tree Master Plan.

The tree is one of two Jacarandas planted on each side of the corner.  It has evidence of old damage & has had large branches removed for the overhead powerlines.  The tree looks as though it will eventually split in half.  I will not be putting in a submission.

I thank Council for using sticky tape to attach the signs.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 16th September 2013.
