This gap in the mangroves is known locally as Marrickville Beach. It’s often a great spot for bird watching & a great site for a seat.

The seat looks as though it is going to be quite large. Certainly a lot of earth has been excavated.

Marrickville Council is building what appears to be a stylish seating arrangement at what the locals call Marrickville Beach, half way between Mackey Park & Steel Park along the Cooks River.

This may seem like a small thing, but to many, the seat will be a blessing.   For those who are unwell or aging in our community, the walk along this section of the river is often not attempted simply because of the lack of seating.  These people often have difficulty sitting on & then getting up from the ground as well.  The outcome has been that a whole section of our community has not felt confident to be able to partake in what is one of the nicest recreational places in Marrickville LGA, unless they remain in the parks.  This seat will allow many to get down to a different section of the river & I thank Council for this.

According to the sign, there will also be story poles erected, so it will be interesting to see these.  Story poles are also coming to Kendrick Park at Tempe.

What was also good to see is that Council has done some reinforcing work on the bank of Marrickville Beach, which had experienced erosion.  I look forward to seeing the finished seat.
