Marrickville Council  & Canterbury Council is seeking community feedback regarding the proposed footbridge over the Cooks River between Marrickville Golf Club & Beaman Park.  Council says the existing bridge is in poor condition even thought it was refurbished in 1980, 2000 & 2010.

The bridge will be located approximately 30-metres upriver from the current bridge.  What is great is that the new bridge will have ramps that will allow cyclists to cross the river at this location.  It will also be easy for prams & wheelchairs as well.

There will also be new landscaping planted around the new bridge, including a riparian habitat area.  One Casuarina tree will be removed.

There are three bridge designs to choose from.  They can be downloaded here – http://bit.ly/1dg0eZb

Council plans to retain two sets of wooden piers from the old bridge nearest the banks “as a reminder of the bridge & also to provide habitat for roosting birds & microbats living in the area.”

There a short survey on the YourSayMarrickville website – http://bit.ly/19UMTpl   I cannot find the deadline for submissions, but the new bridge is to be built in 2014.

Option C design for the Beaman Park Footbridge. I like Option C as this will allow unrestricted view to watch the river. Option A only allows your head to peak over the bridge structure.

Option C design for the Beaman Park Footbridge.   This design is my favourite as it is unobtrusive & will allow an unrestricted view to watch the river. Option A only allows your head to peak over the bridge structure.  Image taken from YourSayMarrickville with thanks.
