This website called – Nature Soundmap – was shared with me on Facebook.  The first recording I listened to was from Watagans National Park, about an hour’s drive from Newcastle.  To me this is quintessential Australia.  I have stood in forests & listened to exactly the same sounds.

This site maps sounds of landscapes from all over the planet.  It is beautiful & an easy way to relax or to meditate.  If you can’t get to a particular place, at least you can have a listen.

Their website says these are  stereo recordings made with two microphones which capture sound in 360 degrees. This recording technique most accurately imitates the natural experience you would hear with your own two ears & provides a realistic representation of all of the sounds in a particular habitat or location. If you sit back, close you eyes & relax while listening to a well-recorded soundscape, it doesn’t take long before you feel like you’re actually there! A good pair of headphones certainly helps enhance the experience.”

I highly recommend visiting Nature Soundmap & having a listen.  The range of places is phenomenal.   There is pause/play button to manage the recordings on the lower left of the page.
