On the western side of Tempe Recreation Reserve near the Ring of Figs is a small area of trees. This group of Turpentine trees is extremely important they are classified as an ‘endangered ecological community.’ This area has been thinned of trees over the past year.
Last weekend, to my delight, I saw that Marrickville Council has done some work in this area. They have removed lawn on both sides of one path all the way to the path that circles the reserve & planted 20 trees, as well as understorey plants.
Council’s work will in time create much-needed habitat for wildlife & will also create a windbreak in this very windy park. I believe the work will also make this area an attractive place for people to picnic away from the busier & organised barbeque area.
I like what Council has done & thank them for doing this.
