Unlike many Councils in Sydney, Marrickville Council does not have a Significant Tree Register. If Council does not protect our significant trees we are likely to lose most if not all our old trees that were planted when the suburbs were first established.  A Significant Tree Register is established to protect trees both on public & private land.  Generally, trees are assessed to evaluate their importance in relation to:

  1. The tree’s historic &/or natural value
  2. The tree’s social, cultural & commemorative value
  3. Its visual & aesthetic value
  4. Whether the tree is particularly old or vulnerable
  5. Whether it is a rare species of tree
  6. If it has horticultural or genetic value
  7. Whether it has natural significance

The above criteria courtesy of Randwick Council.

This page has been created so that you can nominate trees that you think are significant & should be protected by a Significant Tree Register.  All you need to do is send an e-mail of the address of the tree & briefly state why it is significant & it will be included here. Your details will not be published.  savingourtrees@gmail.com
